Cebu City public school teacher nabbed in Ilocos Sur

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (Updated) -- A Cebu City public school teacher was arrested Tuesday night in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old student-athlete.

The teacher, (whose name is being withheld) works at the Zapatera Elementary School Special Education (Sped) class, and resident of Baragay T. Padilla, Cebu City, allegedly embraced and attempted to kiss the boy, a dance sport athlete in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa national athletics meet, while inside the rest room at the NSCC Plaza in Barangay Don Elejandro Quirolgico, in the said town.

NSCC Plaza is the venue for the dance sport competition.

According to Caoayan Police chief Senior Inspector Frederico Artates, they received the complaint around 8:30 p.m., Tuesday.

Artates said, the boy, a 9th grader and resident of Olongapo City, went inside the male restroom with a 15-year-old companion to urinate.

The teacher later approached the 14-year-old boy and allegedly hugged the latter.

The suspect then attempted to kiss him in the neck and body. He asked the boy for "his price."

Artates also added the suspect was already taking pictures of the boy and his friends prior to the incident.

The police official said they immediately reviewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) of NSCC Plaza and the boy positively identified his tormentor.

"Ni review namin yung CCTv dun namin nakita, itinuro na siya yung nagmolestiya sa kanya," Artates said.

Superbalita Cebu sought the suspect’s statement but he declined: “No comment lang sa ko.”

The suspect was arrested at the NSCC Plaza.

He was placed in an inquest proceedings at the Vigan City Prosecutor's Office Wednesday morning. He sought the assistance of the Public Attorney's Office to defend him.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Central Visayas Director Juliet Jeruta said in an interview that the teacher is not part of the CVIRAA delegation and was only there to watch the games.

Jeruta added: "We can't help him regarding this because he's not part of delegation."

The teacher will be facing a complaint for acts of lasciviousness. (with reports from Herty B. Lopez/Superbalita Cebu)
