Market Watch: Pork, beef prices up

THE prices of pork and beef have increased based on the price monitoring conducted by SunStar Davao on Wednesday, April 18, at the Bankerohan Public Market.

Based on the prices from five different stalls in the market, pork and beef increased by P5 to P10 compared to the prices last week.

Prices of pork belly increased to P220 from P200; pork ribs to P175 from P170 and pata (pork) to P165 from P160.

Prices of beef brisket increased to P230 from P220; kaldereta cut to P270 from P260 and beef ribs to P200 from P190.

The price of chicken remained stable. The price of whole chicken remained stable at P140; chicken breast at P150; chicken thighs at P140 and chicken wings at P150.

Ryan Quinto, vendor of pork and beef, said they increase their prices depending on the supply of beef.

“Ang usa ka rason nganong permi mi magtaas ug presyo tungod kay permi mumahal ang presyo sa mga feeds ug pagkaon [for pork], ug dili patas-an amoang mga presyo hastang lugia namo (Another reason why we may increase our prices is the feeds for the livestock have also increased. We would have losses if we do not increase our prices),” Quinto added.

The prices of eggs of different sizes remained stable at P165/tray for large; P150 for medium and P142 for small sizes.

In an interview with vendors of chicken products, the increase and decrease of their products would always depend on the supply, production and the delivery. (Kent Warren H. Fugoso and Sean Belen, FSUU-Intern)
