THREE persons were dead, while seven others were hurt in a collision of a van and jeepney in Atimonan, Quezon, on Thursday evening, August 16.
Atimonan Police Chief Michael Encio said based on initial investigation, the jeepney, driven by Edwin Martinez, was traversing Barangay Balubad along Maharlika Highway around 11:35 p.m. when he tried to avoid a mixer truck parked along his way and took the other lane.
The jeepney then collided head-on with the van that was headed to Manila from Bicol. The driver of the van, Luisito Sarte, died on the spot.
The other casualties who were passengers of the van were identified as Segundina Llamado and Menilla Llovido.
Injured were Martinez and the other passengers of the van, namely, Liza Llamado, Celebrada Montayas, Jocelyn Bengua, Salvacion Pasagi, Cara Alcibor and Victoria De los Santos.
Martinez, who was placed under hospital arrest, may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, damage to property and serious physical injuries. (SunStar Philippines)
