Guns, gunsmith centers not affected by ban By Clara Mae Hortelano
CLASHIR Trading, a gun and gunsmith trading center, is not affected by Malacañang’s directive last January to indefinitely suspend the issuance of permits and licenses to carry firearm outside of residence.
Shirley Zubia, Clashir Trading manager, said it is not only their store but also most of the guns and gunsmith trading centers in Bacolod City as well were not affected of the order.
“Our sales on ammunition still is good,” she said, adding that given their transport permits, gunholders particularly those belonging to gun clubs can still carry their firearms but only from their residence going to the gun club.
“Those gunholders have transport permits signed by the Provincial Police Commander,” she said, adding that they are not really affected by Malacañang’s order since all their clients are professionals and security agencies.
President Arroyo ordered the suspension of the issuance of firearms permits and licenses during the 12th founding anniversary of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame last January.
In the wake of the pronouncement, Senior Supt. Geary Barias, chief of the PNP Firearms and Explosives Division, said all permits to carry firearms have been suspended.
Barias added that those qualified to carry guns are those belonging to the law enforcement agencies, security guards, and persons who receive threats to their lives or are under eminent danger because of their professions such as doctors, judges, and fiscal, among others.
