Friday, April 13, 2007 Reshuffling of poll execs sought By Nicolas C. Delfin
TIRED of campaigning and spending funds during the election period, the
Alab Katipunan (AK) has decided not to run for party-list elections
this May 14.
AK Negros secretary-general Ben Solilapsi said "instead of campaigning,
we will help in ensuring that the elections will be clean, honest,
peaceful and credible".
"We could no longer risk our funds for some suspicious negotiations
with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to the extent that we almost
sold our principles just to win a seat in Congress," Solilapsi said.
He said losing almost 50,000 votes in Mindanao to "cheating and
vote-buying" was a sad experience for them, adding that "until now, our
protest is still pending that we're tired of waiting for the case to be
resolved."
Solilapsi suggested a reshuffling of Comelec registrars two weeks
before the May 14 "to prevent possible collusion with the politician whom
they have befriended because of their long stay in their office."
He also vowed to expose politicians who pay permits to campaign to the
Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP/NPA) and
party-list groups hat are alleged legal fronts of the faction."
