Friday, April 18, 2008 BCHS '58 golden jubilarians to honor outstanding alumni
THE Bacolod City High School (BCHS) golden jubilarians have pledged full support to the 59th alumni general homecoming on April 19-20 at the City High Athletic Grounds with alumni participants during their wildest and most elegant Safari celebration. Last year, the motif was Hawaiian.
Theme for this year's general alumni homecoming is "Making Success Significant." Common attire of the day would be the African Safari jacket or chaleco complete with hunting gears and unique costumes of the wild.
Each class would be represented by their Safari king and queen during the motorcade and grand entrance, who will also join the competition later in the evening.
BCHS Alumni Class '58 will be represented in the search by two active community workers - incumbent Barangay Kagawad Ben Cadagat of Barangay Estefania and former barangay captain Delia Jara Pineda of Barangay 33, both of Bacolod City.
Pineda just arrived from the US, purposely to attend the 50th alumni homecoming of their class in Bacolod City.
Guest speaker for the occasion would be Senator Edgardo Angara, former Senate president and chairman of the Senate committee on education, who will be introduced by Bacolod Councilor Alex Paglumotan of Class '83, this year's Silver hosts.
Actively taking part in the homecoming are members of Alumni Class '58 on their 50th class reunion (golden jubilee), Class '68 (ruby celebrants) and Class '83 (silver hosts).
The golden jubilarians, headed by Class '58 president Ruperto Toga, will be holding a separate fellowship and award ceremonies on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Palmas del Mar Resort, Old Bacolod Airport Subdivision with balikbayan-alumni from the US, Canada, Australia and other parts of the Philippines expected to attend. So far, three alumni from the US mainland have arrived for the homecoming.
They are Ethelinda de Oca Geolingo, a nurse based in Rancho Cucamonga, California; Engineer Jorge Fuentes who used to work with Boeing and aircraft industry in the US, now based in Yorba Linda, California; and Delia Jara Pineda who works as a caregiver in California, USA. The three '58 alumni are awardees of their class during the homecoming.
Outstanding alumni of Class '58 will receive awards of recognition during the program, which will also be attended by their former high school teachers, family members and guests.
Slated to deliver an inspirational message is Ricardo Yap, president of the BCHS-BCNHS Alumni Association.
