Globelines bag bowling crown

CLASS '73 Globelines emerged as champion in the premier class A division while class '62/54 combined forces bagged the crown in class B category in the just-concluded Negros Occidental High School inter-class alumni bowling tournament at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

It was the fourth straight consecutive titles for the Globelines after winning the tournament's coveted plum in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 finals.

The class '73 pincrushers crushed the rampaging class '74, led by Romel Jover, in the deciding match, 528-502, to win this year's event. Jover's group bet the twice-to-beat class A winner in the first game, 519-511.

Last year, the winning squad grabbed the giant "Pepsi-Cola Perfetual Trophy," the highest award ever given to participating team by the alumni association, for garnering three straight titles in a row.

Carrying the colors for the champion squad were Felipe Boy Romero, Gene Guanzon, Hernand Garciniego, Francis Divinagracia, Jerry Rodrigo, Grace Ong, Grace Zollinger, Jose Butch Villagracia, and Bert Aragon.

Romero topscored for the grandslam winner with 126 pinfalls while Garciniego and Guanzon whistled 111 and 107, respectively. Boy Villanueva had 114 for class '74.

Classes '68 and '66 settled for second and third runners-up, respectively.

In the battle for the title in category B, class '62 shutdown class '70 in the final showdown, 511-503.

Playing for the champion team were Jerry Bantillan, Leoncio "Jun" Garrucho, Ed Jara, Dennis Corteza, Tonyi Gallego, Jesse Arevalo and Bilo Cachupero.

Classes '80 and '71 placed second and third runners-up, respectively.

Team awardees were class '66 and class '68 in team triple and single with 1,638 and 578, apiece.

Individual record holders were Danny Esteban and George Alacrito of class '72 in highest pinning and single with 97 and 144, while Cesar Sumaylo of class '65 in triple with 347.
