Naswak school remains in control of Benguet: education exec By Jane Cadalig
DESPITE the reported turnover of the Naswak Elementary School in Bokod to the town of Kayapa in Nueva Vizcaya recently, the school would still be administered by the Benguet Division Office of the education department.
Benguet Schools Division Superintendent Mary Namuhe said her office would continue supervising Naswak unless the Education Central Office issues a directive for the Education Provincial Office in Benguet to stop managing the school.
"Naswak will still be managed by the Benguet Division Office since funds for its operations are with us, unless we receive advisory for us to stop supervision over the school," Namuhe told the Provincial Board (PB).
Namuhe earlier said that turnover of schools was done only by the education department. She said her office had no prior knowledge on the turnover because they never received a communication from Bokod Mayor Marcelino Celino.
Celino reportedly relinquished the school, located in Sitio Naswak, Barangay Ekip, Bokod, to the Municipal Government of Kayapa on May 15.
Bokod Vice Mayor Thomas Wales said the turnover, which was done in Pangaoan, Kayapa, was attended only by Celino and Barangay Ekip Chairman Edward Rafael.
Wales said members of the Municipal Council were sent letters of invitation but none of them attended the activity.
He disclosed that the town's legislative body never authorized Celino to transact with Kayapa on matters relating to the Naswak Elementary School.
Also, he said the Office of the Municipal Mayor did not furnish them copies of the documents that were signed during the reported turnover.
Celino claimed that the school does not fall under the territorial jurisdiction of Benguet but officials here say otherwise.
Naswak residents already manifested opposition to Celino's plan to relinquish the school to the Municipal Government of Kayapa.
