Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Camp 8 wins 2nd Youth Summer basketball cup
THE Camp 8 Kings won over Dats of Brookspoint, 53-46, after overtime play in the suspense-filled midget division championship of the second Baguio Youth Summer Cup on Monday. Their score at the end of the fourth quarter was 40-40.
Likewise, Roebucks of St. Louis University Laboratory Elementary School won over Total Hoop Shots in the mini division championship at the same venue -- the Camp 8 covered court along Kennon Road -- earlier the same afternoon.
Getting the highest score in the midget division championship game on the side of the Camp 8 Kings was Earl Olson with 21 followed by Efren Pangcog with 15 and Joshua Reyes with eight.
On the Dats side, Aaron Rabina put in 16 points, followed by Jaybee Gonzales with 15 and Sammy Datuin with 5.
These teams, along with the third placers in each division, will be awarded their trophies before the Battle of the Bands contest during the Camp 8 fiesta this Saturday.
The champions in each division will also be awarded with a cash prize of P2,000, while the second placers in each division will also be given a P1,000 cash prize.
Trophies will also be awarded to the most valuable players in each division, while those selected for the mythical five in each division will also be given individual medals.
The organizers of the 2nd Baguio Youth Summer Cup thanks the sponsors of this year's tournament: Smart Communications, Camp John Hay Development Corporation, Tiong San Group of Companies, Shoe Mart Prime Holdings and Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr.
Other teams that joined the midget division were the Caribbean Pirates of the Baguio City National High School main campus, Living in Faith Together (Lift), the Gibraltar Jesters, Wespoli of Barangay Puliwes, and Punks Da King of Barangay Balsigan. (ENO)
