Thursday, July 24, 2008 Fariñas seeks funds for school anti-drug abuse projects
VICE Mayor Daniel Fariñas will ask the City Council to allocate P1 million to fund activities of the various School Anti-Drug Abuse Councils city-wide.
This was announced during the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) synergy meeting held at the City Hall multi-purpose room recently, which was participated in, not only by Cadac members and project partners, but also by students and teachers representing the city’s various public high schools.
"Once approved, we will divide this amount to fund the anti-drug projects of our public high schools and their annexes under our ‘Barkadahan Kontra Droga’ program," Fariñas explained.
During the meeting, Cadac officials led by the vice mayor discussed the various drug prevention activities with stakeholders.
Among the objectives of the meeting was for the schools to come up with their own action plans on drug prevention activities, to improve the reporting system of anti-drug abuse accomplishments for Cadac consolidation, and to strengthen and make operational Cadac’s Barkadahan Kontra Droga program in Baguio.
Also discussed were the roles and functions of each member organization in the anti-drug abuse body.
The Barkadahan Kontra Droga is a program conceptualized by the Dangerous Drugs Board to set up youth groups nationwide which will serve as models for their peers to live peaceful, constructive and safe lives free of illegal drugs.
By joining the program, each member will be guided to improve their skills and hidden leadership talents, be taught how to come with and manage livelihood projects, and be given the opportunity to participate in study tours to the non-government offices, government agencies and other rehabilitation institutions.
