Tolentino sisters stamp class in 2006 Power Race By Lynde Salgados
THE Tolentino sisters of Cagayan de Oro continue to reap honors in national level competitions as they excelled anew in the just-concluded New Balance Power Race 2006 at the Bonifacio Global City in Manila.
Aileen, 19, topped the 10K race while the 22-year-old Ellen ruled the 5K run in the memorable event that saw two-time Olympian Eduardo Buenavista's streak of two Power Race titles being ended by reigning Milo Marathon champion Cresenciano Sabal who also hails from Sultan Kudarat just like Buenavista.
The Tolentinos' latest conquest had brightened up the day of local chessers campaigning here in the ongoing National Juniors and Age-Group Finals at St. Francis Square in Mandaluyong.
"Kay nakauban sab namo sila sa bag-ohay lang natapos nga Palarong Pambansa sa Naga city in Camarines Sur," said the 17-year-old Lorelie Cuizon, incoming first-year college varsity player of Rizal Technology University.
In fact, Lorelie's older sister Loreshyl Cuizon was all thanks to the Tolentino siblings for accompanying Lorelie and kiddie compatriot Lennon Hart Salgados right straight from Bicol region to Manila for similar purpose.
"Diretso na unta sila sa Cavite kay naa say offer nga scholarship si Aileen sa La Salle in Dasmarinas pero nihapit sila sa Manila to ensure nga ma-safety sab pagplastar atong duha ka players nga ilang gi-alalayan. The Cagayan de Oro sports community must also be proud of their latest achievements in National Marathon," said the older Cuizon, a member of the RP Women's team in the 2005 World Chess Olympiad in Calvia, Spain.
