N. Mindanao uses 5% more power in 2007
NORTHERN Mindanao had a total regional energy purchase of 2,350,913,328 kilo watts per hour (kwh) in 2007, up 5.63 percent compared to 2,225,540,616 kwh in 2006.
Emmanuel D. Abellanosa, National Transmission Corp. (Transco) assistant vice president, Mindanao said the biggest share of the total regional energy purchase was by the province of Misamis Oriental with 43.61 percent, followed by Lanao del Norte, 29.57 percent; Phividec Industrial Estate, Misamis Oriental (PIE-MO), 11.03 percent; Bukidnon, 8.9 percent; Misamis Occidental, 6.28 percent; and Camiguin, 0.60 percent.

In terms of increase of purchases, however, Misamis Occidental posted the highest with 8.95 percent followed by Lanao del Norte, 7.98 percent; Camiguin, 6.53 percent; Bukidnon, 5.70 percent; and PIE-MO, 3.68 percent. Misamis Oriental, which had the biggest share in the total regional electric purchases, only posted a 4.11 percent increase in its purchases, Abellanosa said.
Meanwhile, Transco data show the following customers posted increases in energy purchases of Misamis Oriental: Misamis Oriental Rural Electric Service Coop (Moresco) I, 6.76 percent; Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco), 6.74 percent; Moresco II, 4.29 percent; and IndoPhil Oil Mills, Inc., 24.91 percent but Holcim, formerly Alsons Cement Corp., posted a decline of 6.51 percent.
In Lanao del Norte, increases in energy purchases were also noted in: Treasure Steel Corp., 106.98 percent; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), 51.68 percent; Pillsburry Food Corp., 43.40 percent; and Lanao del Norte Electric Coop., (Laneco), 14.91 percent.
Also posting increases in energy purchases of the province were: Iligan Cement Corp. (ICC), 3.43 percent; Iligan Light and Power, Inc. at 2.87 percent; NewTech Pulp Inc., 1.73 percent; and Mabuhay Vinyl Corp., 0.72 percent.
However, decline in energy purchases were noted on the following: Maria Cristina Chemical Industries, -37.94 percent, Global Steelworks International, formerly National Steel Corp., -14.95 percent while no data have been derived on the Globe Paper Mills which stopped operation last year.
In Bukidnon, the increase in energy purchases were noted in: Bukidnon Sugar Company (Busco), 21.79 percent; Menzi Agricultural Corp., 6.80 percent; Bukidnon Second Electric Coop. (Buseco), 6.57 percent; and First Bukidnon Electric Coop. (Fibeco), 6.11 percent but declines were noted in Del Monte Philippines Inc. (DMPI), -8.17 percent and Sobros, formerly Mendeco, -4.20 percent.
Moreover, increases in energy purchases were noted in both the Misamis Occidental Electric Coop., Inc. (Moelci) I & II, by 9.94 percent and 8.61 percent, respectively, and that of the Camiguin Electric Co. (Camelco), the only Transco customer in Camiguin, 6.53 percent.
On the other hand, the Elegant Chemical Alloy Corp. posted the highest increase of 6,983.61 percent in energy purchase inside the PIE-MO, followed by the Philippine Sinter Corp., 0.61 percent. However, those of Mindanao Silicon and Ferrochrome declined by 7.99 percent and 9.24 percent, respectively. (PIA)
