Neri: Anniversary affairs By Nelia G. Neri EVE
The laughter around was like the tinkling of pure silver, and the feeling of joy was palpable in the smiling faces gathered for the 25th anniversary celebration of Delmar Travel. On the frontline were Del and Marilou Ordońez, the enterprising couple who organized the travel agency in 1978. All these years their guiding principle has been to deliver travel service based on “professionalism with dignity and integrity.”
The simple silver anniversary celebration began with a Holy Mass at the Delmar office in Arlington Pond corner F. Ramos st. where it has been since day one. Company president Marilou O. is proud to say that Delmar has withstood the test of time... a resolute survivor inspite of setbacks along the way (political turmoil like Edsa I and II, the travel ban, economic criss, 9/11, etc.). She credits this to the conservative policy set by her husband, chairman of the board Del O. She also acknowledges the important role of their past and present staff who have always given their best.
Just as jubilant as Del and Marilou were former Delmar personnel Letty Rubin (now connected with a travel agency in Boston, USA), CX cargo supervisor Henry Francisco, CX sales manager Connie Cimafranca, Jackie Uy (manager of Thomas Cook), among others. Special awardees were Rosie Lozada, assistant manager of Delmar’s Manila office who has been with the company for 24 years, and chief accountant Nanie Chan who has chalked up 13 years of service to Delmar Cebu.
Entertainment came in the form of group singing by Delmar talents Nanie, Terry, Lenlen, Ryan, Pete, Queenie and Ivy.
Seen at the luncheon affair were: Azon Mercado and Charing Alfaro who were among the first passengers to book with Delmar; loyal clients like Inday Villamor (minus Doc Abdy who was still at the office), lawyer Den and Lolly Diez; cruise enthusiasts Rolly and Elena Jarantilla, Jack and Malou Mendez, Gen. (ret.) Eleno and Nati Amores, Henry and Nenita Yu.

Still quite young at seven years, Air Philippines (AP) has made giant strides to make its mark in the travel/tourism scene. In celebration of its seventh anniversary, the airlines launched the first ever Air Philippines Travel Girl Search as a way of showing support to the country’s Visit Philippines 2003 campaign. AP Travel Girl-Luzon is Catherine Claire Corpuz while Toni Michelle Su got the title of AP Travel Girl-Visayas. Nursing student Joan Christine Uy was named AP Travel Girl-Mindanao.
According to Patty Chiong, SVP for admin and marketing and sales of SPC, the Air Philippines Travel Girl is expected “to exude the unique Filipino’s brand of charm, warmth, spontaneity, and friendliness. She is also tasked to assist the airline in promoting domestic tourism and be actively involved in customer and community service activities of the airline during her tour of duty. Finally she is supposed to embody the airline’s commitment to safety and reliability, quality and service excellence, and pride in the Philippines and the Filipino culture.
By the way, Air Philippines also honored seven awardees for their seventh year.
