Karl Hudson takes over as general manager of the Cebu City Marriott Hotel in place of Christiane Wasfy who is all set for her new post in Saigon. There was a hello and good-bye party in their honor last week at the grand ballroom. Christiane leaves with a heavy heart because she has made so many friends here but she promises to visit, and she is also asking friends to look her up in Saigon.

On the other hand, Karl who was born in England but grew up in New Zealand, looks forward to knowing more about the Cebuano way of life.

Handsome little tyke Enzo Regner was the superstar at a “Bob the Builder” party organized by his doting parents, Engr. Vergel and Myka Regner for his first birthday at the Cebu Country Club. But of course he was in proper construction attire as in workman’s jumper and guests were given hard hats to complete the ambience of a construction site. No doubt Dad Vergel is training Enzo to follow in his footsteps. Meanwhile loving Mom Myka went out of her way to personally prepare special dishes for the guests. Myka is known for her expertise in the kitchen.

Brand new grandparents, former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia and wife Ninette can’t wait to see their very first grandchild, Bianca Trinidad, born in California last week to eldest lawyer-son Jess and Leslie, daughter of Teddy and Doris Oliva. They are looking forward to more grandchildren but there is nothing in the horizon yet for second son Jerald and wife Christina who got married early this year.

And speaking of doting grandparents, Fer and Flor Ynclino left for Los Angeles, California, last Sunday to visit their toddler grandson Jason, one and only heir of Fiza (Ynclino) and Gerry Du.

Lucy Urgello Miller is a regular Cebu visitor coming all the way from California to visit her dear aunt Milagros Urgello and of course to see her handsome son, Vice Gov. John Osmeña. Her chums from way back when never fail to organize a get-together each time. The latest one was a luncheon affair at Sen Ryu Japanese Restaurant in Lahug arranged by Ninette Garcia, Josie Sala, Diana Ledesma, Marilen Jarque, Anita San Jose, Benjie Diola, Kit Yeung and Ruby Lim.

Back from a wonderful Singaporean swing are Rudy and Tusing Perez with daughters Angela (Cañares) and Jenjen (Olan) who had promptly availed of the special package of SilkAir, the regional carrier of Singapore Airlines when they read about it. They are thinking of a more extensive stay the next time around because they find Singapore everything it is touted to be - clean and green, orderly and lovely, interesting and exciting.

Alex and Loreta Dytian have added another concern to their food conglomerate - Big Mao, a Chinese restaurant in Crossroads Mall specializing in dimsum dishes. But of course chef-son Derrick is on top of the kitchen while their other son John and daughter Lorraine take charge of the business side.
