Regional media summit slated in Legazpi City

After the successful holding of the Second National Media Summit last June 6 to 8 at Bayview Hotel in Manila comes the First Regional Media Summit on Sept. 16 to 18 in Legazpi city.

On the last day of the national event, Legazpi City Councilor Jesus “Chito” Baldo announced his bid to host the next media affair.

The summit was organized by the Federation of the Provincial Press Clubs of the Philippines (FPPCP) and the Publishers and Editors League of the Philippines (Pelp), both headed by Iloilo city’s Daily Informer publisher Bernie G. Miaque.

FPPCP and Pelp envision quarterly regional assemblies in the major geographical areas of Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the National Capital Region as their continuing project.
Preparations

Baldo said preparations are now underway to accommodate some 250 delegates composed of press club presidents and officers, publishers, editors, columnists, broadcast station managers, news directors, government information officers, campus writers and other countryside media personalities.

Top government personalities and respected Philippine media leaders are expected to address the delegates.

Negotiations with Air Philippines’ top executives have also started for a possible special flight from Manila to Legazpi to bring delegates.

Patria “Patty” Chiong, Air Philippines senior vice president for administration, marketing and sales, has instructed her staff to study possibilities of transporting media practitioners via Air Philippines form Manila to Legazpi city.

The same effort is being done with WG&A Superferry for participants coming from the Visayas and Mindanao.

“We are also looking for a bus company to transport the delegates from Visayas and Mindanao using the Nautical Highway project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo,” said Norman Tandoc, Pelp secretary-general and special projects committee chairman.
