Hundreds of booters sign up for Monfort football tournament

THE Kick Off 2003/04 Chris Monfort Memorial Football Fiesta received an overwhelming response after about 500 players from 18 schools coming from different schools and clubs signed up for the Aug. 2-3 tournament at the Cebu International School.

With the limited slots available, the organizing committee headed by the new Cebu Football Association (CFA) officials, have asked the teams to merge to accommodate all entries.

There will be 20 teams in the 4-a-side Under-7 and Under-8 age groups, while 10 teams will compete in the 7-a-side Under 10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16. Currently, adjustments are being considered in the Ladies Open after six teams signed up with only five slots available.

Five teams will also play in the Under-19 Men’s Open, another 7-aside event along with the Ladies Open.

The two-day football fiesta will have four divisions play in 12-minute matches each day. The finals will conclude each day late in the afternoon.

Final line-ups must be submitted on or before July 31. Registration is free.

Don Bosco Technical Center, Springdale, University of San Carlos, Sacred Heart School-Jesuits, Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion, Batang Rotary-Basak Elementary School, Sopicones and Cebu International School will field their teams in the tournament, which will start the 2003-04 football season as the new CFA officials’ inaugural tournament.

Other schools include Abellana National School, City Central Elem. School, Camp Lapu-Lapu Elem. School, University of the Philippines, Cebu Doctors College, Batang Rotary-Punta Elementary School, San Roque, University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippines and University of San Jose-Recoletos.

School teams and clubs that are interested to join may contact the CFA office by phone at 345-7886, or fax at 345-7887, or cell phone at 0917-328-1588, or by e-mail at maximax@pacific.net.ph. PCC
