City to LTFRB: Go slow on franchises
To regulate the number of public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Talisay City, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 must coordinate with the City before issuing new franchises.
The Talisay City Traffic Commission (TCTC), chaired by Vice Mayor Aberdovey Belleza, agreed on this in its recent meeting, to decongest Talisay City’s major roads from “excessive” number of multicabs plying the Tabunok-Jaclupan-Manipis route.
The City Council earlier passed a resolution giving the LTFRB 7 a go-signal to proceed with the renewal of franchises for Jaclupan routes.
However, some operators have reportedly applied not only for renewal of franchises, but for new ones as well. This defeats their goal to decongest traffic in the city, the TCTC said.
In its regular session today, the City Council will take up the traffic commission’s proposal.
Also included in today’s agenda is a resolution requiring the City Permits and Licensing Office to submit a graphic report on the pending applications for tricycle franchise.
The TCTC observed that all city streets have been saturated with tricycles, but the City has no correct data on the actual number of tricycles. (GC) |
