Pacquiao-Morales II this September?
Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum, who is slated to put up a major boxing promotion in September, declared that although Erik Morales will be the star attraction of the card, he won’t be facing Manny Pacquiao.
“No, it’s not going to be Pacquiao,” Arum was quoted by boxingtalk.com.
Arum, however, said he would love to have Pacquiao in his upcoming promotion primarily because of the Filipino’s huge box-office appeal.
“I’m hoping to have Pacquiao on the card but it looks like the leading contender will be in a fight that Erik goes for a fourth title against the new lightweight (130-pound) champion Leavander Johnson.”
Arum, whose Top Rank outfit made a killing at the box-office with its production of the epic Morales-Pacquiao super-fight last March 20, cautiously said that nothing is final yet.
Pacquiao’s camp, which briefly ceased its deal-makings recently while Pacquiao was in the middle of a legal battle against promoter Murad Muhammad, may suddenly come into the picture after the MuhaMmad camp threw in the towel and settled the lawsuit out of court yesterday.
“If it’s (the September card) going to be finalized at all, it’ll be in the coming days,” said Arum. “Todd (DuBoef, Top Rank vice president) and Lou (DiBella, a New York promoter) are in serious discussions and we’ll see where it goes.” (GCM)
