Friday, December 15, 2006 Roach wants Barrera, Marquez for PacMan
AFTER a third fight and a devastating win against Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales last November, it seems Manny Pacquiao will have two more rematches under his belt—against Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez.
That is if Pacquiao’s trainer, the renowned Freddie Roach is to be followed.
"Barrera is the one everybody wants to see. We'll fight Marquez after that. No problem. We'll do both fights for sure,” Roach said in an interview with the Arizona Republic two days ago.
Roach added that he will meet with Pacquiao in General Santos to talk about plan their next move.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) earlier ordered the camp of Pacquiao and Barrera to start negotiating for the rematch and said that if no agreement between the two camps is finalized before Jan. 12, the WBC will set up a purse-bidding for the fight. At loggerheads
Oscar dela Hoya’s Golden Boys Promotions and Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions are currently at loggerheads over the rights to promote Pacquiao, who reportedly signed separate contracts with both outfits.
On the other hand, Barrera has already expressed his desire to fight Pacquiao, saying he will show the Filipino fighter a true Mexican in their rematch.
Pacquiao stopped Barrera in 11 rounds during the first fight at the Alamodome on Nov. 15 2003. That fight also elevated Pacquiao to the list of marquee fighters.
On May 8 2004, Marquez survived three knockdowns in the first round for a draw with Pacquiao.
Because of draw
Meanwhile, Marquez’s trainer says that Pacquiao should consider fighting his ward first because of that draw.
Marquez recently retained his WBC interim featherweight title after stopping Filipino Jimrex Jaca in nine rounds last November. (ML)
