GMA to inaugurate park, new CH building

PRESIDENT Arroyo is expected in Cebu City next week for the inauguration of the Sugbu Park and the newly renovated City Hall Legislative Building.

The President will grace the inauguration of the four-story, P120 million edifice, including the City Council session hall that will be named after her mother.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama said the Presidential Management Staff already confirmed last Tuesday night the President’s attendance to the inauguration on July 23.

The new session hall will be named after Doña Eva Macaraeg-Macapagal to show the City Government’s appreciation for the President’s contributions to Cebu City.

Projects

Among other projects, Arroyo approved the P15 million financial assistance from the Philippine Tourism Authority, which was used to cover the expenses for the landscape of the City Hall grounds and some furniture.

The landscaped area in front of the legislative building will be called Sugbu Park.

“The President was responsible for the landscaping and to show our gratitude to her and in honor of her mother, we will name the new session hall after Doña Eva,” Rama said in a phone interview.

As a teenager, Doña Eva Macaraeg spent a few years in Cebu and studied here.

On July 23, a mass and flag raising ceremony will be held in the morning, and the President is expected to arrive for the inauguration proper later in the morning.

The building, which cost some P120 million to renovate, was completed last December yet, but additional works continued up to this month.

It now has a clinic, child-minding center, cafeteria, social hall, caucus room and conference room. The offices are now more spacious and the alleys are wider. (LCR)
