Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Suroy to include 2 Mactan sites
THE upcoming Suroy-Suroy Sugbo will visit only two sites in Mactan Island due to a tight schedule.
Lapu-Lapu City first lady and Tourism Commissioner Paz Radaza said they couldn’t keep Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and the group the whole day because the caravan still has to proceed to Cordova town.
“We understand the governor’s side. Ok lang, at least we are included in her Suroy-Suroy, which has helped Cebu’s tourism,” she said.
On Aug. 16, the group joining the Suroy-Suroy will drop by at the Mactan Shrine and the Virgen of the Rule Parish, which has been declared by the Archdiocese of Cebu as a shrine.
One of the sites that was not included is the 214.6-hectare Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary, which stretches from Caubian island to its boundary near Jetafe, Bohol.
Radaza said they would have wanted to showcase the Mactan Economic Zone and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport as well.
Mandaue City will be the first stop in the itinerary.
In Lapu-Lapu City, the entertainment show will include the reenactment of the Kadaugan sa Mactan by public school students.
From the Birhen dela Regla Shrine, the group will proceed to Cordova town where they will be toured by Mayor Adelino Sitoy himself in the newly constructed police and municipal buildings, newly constructed road in Barangay Poblacion and the construction site of the one-kilometer bridge connecting Barangay Day-as and the 60-hectare Lave islet.
Investors
Sitoy said he will try to persuade Garcia to join him and local fishermen in finding seashells in the shores of neighboring Barangays Gabi and Day-as.
Sitoy is opening the area to investors who want to open souvenir shops and restaurants.
On Sunday, the Suroy-Suroy caravan will be in Cordova’s Gilutongan marine sanctuary.
Reports from a local paper (not Sun.Star Cebu) said that the governor dropped Lapu-Lapu City from its Suroy-Suroy itinerary because of its officials’ failure to attend the meeting drew negative reactions from the city officials. (AIV)
