New hotel to open
By Debra M. Estero
Sun.Star Correspondent

AN INTERNATIONAL hotel chain will open its 10th branch in the country, in Lapu-Lapu City, next week.

Microtel Inn and Suites Mactan is the biggest Microtel branch in the Philippines.

With an area covering almost one hectare and a 5,000-square meter beach, Microtel Inn and Suites Mactan is the biggest Microtel branch in the Philippines, said general manager Rene Jorolan.

Jorolan said the six-story Microtel Mactan features a modern retro theme from the lobby to the guest rooms.

It will have the same service offered by all Microtel hotels worldwide.

“We are a limited-service hotel with international standards,” Jorolan told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview last week.

He said the hotel targets a mixed market and can accommodate short- and long-staying guests.

Therapeutic

Microtel Mactan has a total of 161 rooms, all furnished with chiropractor-approved mattresses imported from Georgia in the United States.

“No franchise can open a Microtel without these mattresses, which are therapeutic and can give utmost comfort to our guests,” Jorolan said. Each room is also equipped with a safety deposit box.

Cebu-based Enderson Land Inc. owns the Microtel Mactan property but the hotel is managed by Microtel Development Corp. Microtel Mactan has 18 suite rooms, each with a floor area of 30 square meters, 55 double room premium and 88 double room standard—both types having a floor area of 25 square meters. Premium rooms provide guests a view of the open sea.

Since the hotel operates according to international standards, there are also six rooms that Jorolan described as “physically handicapped-friendly” rooms.

Differently abled

This room type is designed for persons with disabilities as it features a door hole that can be used by guests who move around on a wheelchair. Room numbers are also written in Braille.

Access ramps for wheelchairs can also be found all over the hotel.

Although the soft opening on Monday will allow the management to evaluate its readiness to accept guests, Jorolan said it will also allow them to “feel the pulse of the community.”

The grand opening is set for the last week of September.

Jorolan also confirmed that the hotel have already started accepting bookings and he is confident Microtel Mactan would be able to earn a “respectable” figure by the end of the year.

Microtel Mactan, located in Punta Engaño, also features a lobby coffeeshop, adult and kiddie pools, wireless Internet access, beach bar pool, an adventure room and function rooms.
