Saturday, August 30, 2008 Nalzaro: Enough is enough, Brod Soc By Bobby Nalzaro Saksi
BEING a father, I sympathize with Talisay City Mayor Soc Fernandez, who has problems dealing with his son. But I consider his act of protecting his son, Joavan, as not worth emulating. He even lied twice just to save his son from controversies.
Brod Soc's religious image has been tainted by the activities of his son. People are now questioning his honesty in spreading God’s word. By covering up his son's wrongdoing, he has jeopardized his credibility and integrity as a Catholic faith defender.
He said that his son is a principled man and does not want his rights trampled upon. He lied. Is Joavan a principled man when he is facing criminal cases including one for crime against person? A principled man is law abiding and God fearing.
The mayor insists that Joavan only carries a toy gun. But it is public knowledge in Talisay that his son has real guns. Even Joavan admitted this in a radio interview, although the following day he retracted it and said the guns were mere toys.
Joavan claimed he was misquoted in the previous interview. But somebody must have advised him to retract his statement and bolster his father's toy gun claim. What does Soc think of his son, a little boy?
A raid on Joavan’s house was conducted by the Talisay police the other day, but no firearm was found. But I suspect the raid was scripted by the mayor with the participation of the police.
Brod Soc should be reminded that lying is against the teaching of the Lord. He should read John 1-21 and Romans 1-25. I know he knows this because he has memorized the Bible.
He should also be reminded that he is not only the father of Joavan but of all Talisaynons. Joavan is a potential risk to society. Why sacrifice the safety of the majority in exchange for the love of a “prodigal son”? Enough is enough. Send him to a rehabilitation center.

Good news to all fans of radio commentator Choy Torralba. He will be back on air through his new home, dyRF Radyo Fuerza (1215 khz) from 10-12 a.m. starting Monday. Choy was “off the air” for a couple of weeks after leaving dyLA radio.
Torralba’s press conference yesterday was attended by big wigs of Cebu media and officials of dyRF, which is owned and operated by Word Broadcasting Corp. (WBC) of the Society of the Divine World.
DyRF’s studios are located at the main campus of the University of San Carlos. The station is managed by Fr. Joseph “Jo” Suson, SVD, who was “imported” by WBC from Tacloban City. Its leading radio personalities include Ike Durano and the veterans Alex Bolongaita and Fred Quiño.
Torralba assured his radio listeners that he will bring the same passion, dedication and intensity to his new radio program. He did not fully reveal, though, the reason why he left dyLA where he began his broadcasting career 26 years ago. “Tug-ani ang Lungsod” is still be the title of the program and it will still be co-anchored by Kits Callejan.
Well, broadcast competition will be merrier with Choy back on air. Kay morag namingaw kadiyot ang pagpanibya sa Sugbo sa dihang nawa siya sa kahanginan. Unya, ma-inspired na si Choy mo-broadcast live sa studio kay daghan kaayong “studentry” didto. Basin og mobulontaryo pa og escort niya si Boss Jerry Yntig sa Globe, a major sponsor of his program.
