Thursday, October 11, 2007 Cop accused of raping wife's teenage cousin By Rhodamae M. Hernandez
CHARGES have been filed against a policeman accused of trying to rape a 16-year-old in a condominium inside Camp Catitipan, Dvao City, this October.
Charged was PO1 Jason Glenn Peña Saberon, presently assigned as intelligence officer at the Regional Intelligence Office in Camp Catitipan, after City Prosecutor Mariam April Mastura found probable cause to hold him for court trial based on the complaint of Grace (not her real name).
Grace, in her affidavit, said she was hired by her cousin -- the suspect's wife -- as babysitter in September 2006.
Last October 5, she said, she was already lying in bed at around 12:30 a.m. when Saberon allegedly entered her bedroom, pretending to be looking for something. But as he entered, he lied on top of her. Grace claimed she struggled and kicked the suspect, thus she was able to run outside and shout for help.
She told her cousin about what happened, but when her cousin confronted her husband, the latter denied the accusation. Thus, instead of helping her, her cousin slapped her instead. Grace said she even told her cousin that Saberon had raped her several times already, she has lost count. The wife refused to believe her and ordered her to pack up and leave.
It was only when she arrived home that she was accompanied by her father to her aunt to whom she told what happened at Saberon's house.
Mastura recommended bail of P200,000 for the respondent's temporary liberty.
