Friday, October 26, 2007 Taiwanese investors keen to put up shops in Davao
VISITING Taiwanese businessmen in Davao City are interested to enter into joint agreements with the local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Southern Mindanao reported.
The delegation, which will arrive in the city Friday, will participate in an investment briefing that will be given by DTI-Southern Mindanao.
Teolulo Pasawa, director of DTI's National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (Nerbac) Davao, will provide the delegates a clear picture of the region's investment potentials.
Meanwhile, Romulo Palcon, regional technical director of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Southern Mindanao, will give inputs about the food industry situation in Davao.
Trade assistant regional director Marizon S. Loreto said the activity will open doors of opportunities for the region as the 14 Taiwanese businessmen will be encouraged to pour in their investments here.
"These businessmen are really keen on investing in the food sector. And I can assure them that the food sector in the region is booming," she said.
Loreto even pointed to the presence of associations in the Davao Region that help propel the growth of the food industry.
"In Davao City, we have the Food Processors Association of Davao (FPAD) which is very active in promoting the industry. We also have the 'Branding Project' spearheaded by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII)," she said.
The Branding Project ensures that the products that carry the seal "Davao Quality" have passed the stringent guidelines and requirements set by a group with an inter-agency composition.
The Taiwan Mission is an offshoot of the RP (Republic of the Philippines) Mission to Taiwan in June 2006, where food-exporting companies had the opportunity to observe the Taiwan Food Show and Technology Exposure.
The mission complements the Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) event.
