Duterte mum on barangay kapitan ambush
By Grace L. Plata

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he will let the police finish their investigation on the recent attack against another barangay captain before he will give comments on the matter.

"I already know who is responsible, but I will let the police do their job before I say anything," Duterte said, referring to the ambush of Carmen barangay captain Crisologo Cresencio and his friend Sunday noon.

Cresensio and Hermes Tar were onboard a motorcycle on their way home when unidentified armed men fired at them as they were approaching Puentespina Flower Farm in Purok 8.

The barangay captain was hit in the left arm, but still managed to escape and seek help. Tar, on the other hand, instantly died after he was hit in different parts of his body.

Duterte, meanwhile, also refused to confirm if the attackers are members of the New People's Army (NPA).

Last March, the mayor assured barangay captains that they are not targets of the NPA. The statement came after the killing of Barangay Fatima captain Custodio Varona on March 18.
