DPWH embarks a P3 million road repair in NegOr

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has embarked on a P3 million road repair particularly at the Capitol and the Mabinay-La Libertad roads.

Assistant Regional Director Engineer Gloria Dindin is tasked to oversee DPWH's nationwide maintenance operations.

Under R.A. 8794 otherwise known as the Motor Vehicle User's Charge Law, it declares that it is the policy of the state to provide for and ensure the adequate maintenance of national and provincial roads through sufficient funding and one is the road user's tax.

The Provincial Government is also given by DPWH a certificate of capability where they can now work directly with the project rather than DPWH doing it.

The P3-million project includes a repair, resealing of the asphalt road along the Dumaguete-Capitol Road, and the regravelling of the Paniabunan-Gulhob Road in Mabinay and La Libertad connecting roads.

Dindin said allowing Capitol officials to directly handle the work instead of their office is in consonance with Executive Order No. 124 where they are mandated to decentralize its responsibilities to the fullest extent possible.

"Consistent with this policy of decentralization, DPWH will assist local government units in developing their capabilities by allowing them greater participation in the local road maintenance and safety," Dindin said.

The maintenance and rehabilitation of major roads in the province was fast tracked by Governor Emilio Macias II as he sees that doing the same will accelerate economic activity in some outlying areas.

Macias said that having good roads will have an easy and fast modes of transportation from the rural to the urban areas of the province. (EBS)
