Comelec grants Pangasinan group political party status

DAGUPAN CITY -- Biskeg Pangasinan, a loose coalition of political leaders in the province, is now a political party.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) accredited Biskeg as a new political party after it met the minimum requirements.

Local leaders in the province led by former Sto. Tomas mayor Antonio "Bebot" Villar Jr., now a presidential assistant, worked for the group's accreditation.

Other provinces like Nueva Ecija and Cebu have their own local political parties and these proved to be groups to reckon with during elections along with established national political parties.

Villar, who almost challenged Gov. Victor E. Agbayani in the last gubernatorial election with Biskeg behind him, founded the group along with other notable leaders like Vice Gov. Oscar B. Lambino. Most city and municipal mayors are members of the group.

As a former loose grouping of politicians from various political parties, it was not clear if the members would go with their nationally based parties or their local group in their stand on political issues. (DOS/Pangasinan Star)
