3 killed, 7 hurt in Catigan clash
DAVAO CITY -- Three soldiers were killed while seven others were wounded when members of the New People's Army (NPA) clashed with troops of the Army's 66th Infantry Battalion in Catigan, Toril this city Saturday morning.

Colonel Gaudencio Pangilinan, chief of the Army's 1002nd Brigade operating in Toril since January, said the soldiers were on patrol at the vicinity of Sitio Habana around 6:55 a.m. Saturday when they spotted the rebels who ambushed them.
A firefight then ensued for more than 40 minutes killing three soldiers. One died on the spot, while the two died on their way to the Davao Medical Center.
Seven more soldiers were wounded and are now recuperating at the hospital.
One of the dead soldiers was Joselito Aguio, 35, who sustained gunshot wound in his head. The two other fatalities were not identified yet as of this writing Saturday.
Those wounded were Cesar Cibuan, 49; Gerry Dimalinao, 35; Gil Maranga, 25; Joseph Zamora, 33; Osias Romualdo, 19; Alorin Cadungog, 32; and a certain Kayo, 52.
Pangilinan said the rebels belonging to the Front Committee 51 were just trying to retaliate after about 300 rebel supporters surrendered last Friday and took their oath of allegiance to the Constitution.
