Kapampangan pigeon enthusiast wins tilt

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The homing pigeons of Boboy Concepcion, treasurer of United Pampanga Pigeon Racing Association (Uppra), were overall champion and first overall champion in the five-lap final championship dubbed "Digmaan Sa Ere 2008 Pigeon North Summer Race."

Concepcion received Tuesday a championship and first placer trophy, along with a cash prize, during the awarding ceremony in Barangay Bulaon.

The competition was initiated by race officers Allan Cayanan, race director, and supported by Raul Evangelista, president Fernandino Racing Pigeon Association (FRPA).

About 700 pigeons participated in the race. The competition included f-lap race, which started from the first-lap in Rosario, La Union; second-San Fernando, La Union; third-Vigan; fourth-Laog; and the final lap in Burgos also in the Ilocos Region.

Bong Reyes and his bird entry with leg number Phil. Series 2007-771506 secured the second overall champion with the total speed of 664.110.

Other top winners were third placer John Micheal Butiu, fourth Jay Medina, fifth Kirby Amojelar, sixth Unicon Galura, seventh RVA-Lando, eighth Arcega, ninth Aries Bolus and 10th Jojo Pasibigan.

In the 2008 South Summer Race competition; Jun Sanchez, president of San Fernando Racing Pigeon Club (SFRP), also won the overall champion during the Cabayog South Pigeon Race last month. (IOF)
