Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Disaster office to form emergency response teams
THE City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) is organizing emergency response teams (ERTs) in each of the 98 barangays in Zamboanga City.
Councilor Lilia Nuño said the ERTs are formed to be able to immediately respond to any form of calamity or disaster in a particular area and render assistance to the affected people.
With the ERTs in place, Nuño said they could render immediate assistance while waiting for the arrival of concerned agencies like the social welfare and Red Cross in areas hit by a calamity.
Members of the ERT will be trained by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Zamboanga City Chapter on how to respond during calamities or emergencies in their respective barangays.
She said each ERT will compose of 43 members, nine of whom will be trained for emergency response, nine for first aid and 23 for blood donation.
PNRC-Zamboanga Chapter Administrator Victor Liozo Jr. said they would train the members of the ERTs in batches. (Bong Garcia)
